How to Qualify
This new deduction program runs from 2025 through 2028. To qualify, the vehicle you purchase must be used for personal, not business, uses. Additionally, lease payments don't qualify.
This program is intended to be used on vehicles purchased after December 31, 2024. Used vehicles don't qualify, so if you take a loan to finance a new vehicle in full, you may qualify for this deduction. Vehicles that qualify must have a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 14,000 pounds and have undergone final assembly within the United States.
The maximum annual deduction is $10,000. The deduction is phased out for taxpayers with a modified adjusted gross income of over $100,000 or $200,000 for joint filers.
